2nd Annual Kings Bay - Camden Community Golf Classic
The Camden Partnership’s Second Annual Kings Bay - Camden Community Golf Classic was held on Friday, November 14, 2014, at Trident Lakes Golf Club aboard Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The tournament was a casual event and kicked off at 7:30 AM with registration and a shot gun starting at 9:00 AM.
VADM Al Konetzni, USN (Ret.), a member of the Board of Directors for Dolphin Scholarship, was this year’s Honorary Chairman. He and Sheila McNeill (also a member of the Dolphin Scholarship Board of Directors) had a great time riding around in the golf cart, furnishing nourishment for the players and offering advice.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation, which awards college scholarships to the sons and daughters of U.S. submariners, and the work of The Camden Partnership. “Providing scholarships to submariner’s children and supporting and advocating for all of our military in Camden County are worthy causes and a great opportunity to spend a day on the golf course at the same time,” said Konetzni, VP, Strategic Business Programs, Oceaneering International, Inc. The Partnership works closely with local, regional, state, and federal entities, economic development authorities to advocate for, support, and strengthen military missions, and to improve the quality of life for our military members by enhancing military and community partnerships.
USS Georgia (Blue) was the active duty command that entered the largest number of players. They will have a “Dolphin Scholarship” named in their Honor for the 2015-2016 academic year. The DSF Commander’s Trophy, presented to the active duty command with the lowest golf score, went to COMSUBRON16.
“Our civilians, veterans, and active duty military joined together for a fun day on the golf course and doing good works at the same time” said McNeill, President of The Camden Partnership.
At the close of the tournament Sheila presented Marty Klumpp, who has been working for the partnership for the past 5 years, a bouquet of flowers to recognize her work on the golf tournament and her many contributions to the Partnership.
