Trident Refit Facility to Hold Special Hiring for New Apprentices
The Trident Refit Facility (TRF) is seeking applicants for its 2015 Apprenticeship Program. TRF is a tenant command at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, and is responsible for providing quality maintenance, repair and modernization for sustaining a superior global submarine force.
The apprenticeship program is a four-year accredited United States Department of Labor Program that combines Certificate level college courses, along with trade theory classes, and on-the-job work experience at TRF. Electricians, pipe fitters, machinists, equipment mechanics, welders and fabric workers are a few examples of the trades that may be available. Apprentices earn a competitive wage with scheduled promotions as they progress through the program and are eligible for benefits, which include vacation, medical and retirement.
“We are proud to be able to offer qualified individuals the opportunity to join our family here at TRF,” said Capt. Gunter Braun, TRF Kings Bay Commanding Officer. “We are looking to recruit and train candidates to become tomorrow’s highly skilled workforce. Our graduate apprentices come here for a job, but stay for a career.”
In order to apply, applicants must fill out a Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) application and release form. These can be obtained and returned to any of the CPTC campuses in Camden, Brunswick, Waycross, Jesup, Baxley or Hazelhurst. A COMPASS exam that assesses reading, writing, and math at the collegiate level is also required. COMPASS exams taken after September 1, 2012 are still valid and those scores can be submitted when applying for the Apprentice Program. Applicants with previous scores are required to contact CPTC to complete the application and release form as previous forms are invalid. There is a fee associated with taking the test ($24 first time or $15 retest) which is the responsibility of the applicant. Once the application, release and application fee are returned, a COMPASS exam will be scheduled.
The COMPASS exam is administered on specific days and times by a proctor. For out of area applicants, in order to schedule a remote testing site, you must coordinate by contacting the CPTC Testing Administrator. Applicants can contact Laura Fish at CPTC, Camden Campus at (912) 510-3327 or email@example.com should you have additional questions.
Interested applicants are urged to register for these tests now as available seats are expected to fill quickly.
All academic costs in the apprenticeship program are paid in full by both the HOPE Grant and TRF, provided students receive a grade of “C” or higher at class completion. Eligibility requirements for the program are:
- All applicants must be U.S. citizens.
- Applicants must be able to pass a physical examination prior to employment.
- Applicants must be able to pass a full criminal history background investigation.
- Enroll and complete the Compass test with Coastal Pines Technical College, Camden, Brunswick, Waycross, Jesup, Baxley or Hazelhurst Campus.
